To take to one's heels / To run away quickly
Literally 'to put feet in the dust'. Describes fleeing quickly from a situation, usually out of fear or to avoid consequences.
As soon as he saw the boss, he took to his heels.
When the fight broke out, the onlookers took to their heels.
—Where is she? —She took to her heels, nobody knows where she went.
