Fixed collocation. Spanish uses perder (to lose) with tiempo, not malgastar, in everyday speech. The opposite is aprovechar el tiempo.

No perdamos el tiempo y empecemos ya.

Let's not waste time and get started.

Siento que estoy perdiendo el tiempo en esa reunión.

I feel like I'm wasting time in that meeting.

—¿Merece la pena? —No, es perder el tiempo.
